5 Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Truck's Paint Color

websitebuilder • Oct 13, 2022

Color may not be your priority if you own or want to buy a new truck. Yet, the truck's color influences the resale value, safety, and fuel efficiency. So, how do you choose the best color for your truck? Read on to find out.

1. Safety and Security

Color influences the safety and security of your truck. Specific types of colors increase the chances of your vehicle being stolen. For instance, thieves are more likely to steal your vehicle if it has white or black paint. In contrast, trucks with orange and light-yellow paint are less likely to be stolen.

The truck's color also influences vehicle safety on the road. Your truck's odds of being in an accident tend to increase if the vehicle has a specific paint color. The high probability is due to physics principles. Lighter paint colors are more visible at night due to better reflective properties.

Therefore, trucks with lighter colors will be more visible and less likely to be involved in road accidents. On the other hand, trucks with darker paints are less visible and more likely to be involved in a road accident.

Common light colors include beige, yellow, and white. On the other hand, red, black, and grey are darker colors and less safe on the road.

2. Resale Value

Your truck's color has a surprising impact on the vehicle's resale value. Many people believe that the traditional vehicle colors of black, silver, and white have the best value. However, the unique and rarely seen colors will increase your truck's value. For example, a yellow or orange truck will fetch a substantial amount during a trade-in or selling.

The reason behind the popularity of unique colors is simple market forces. Many people usually choose trucks with more popular colors for various reasons. One of the reasons is a belief that trucks with neutral colors are easier to sell. Hence, a buyer may be reluctant to spend money on a truck with unique colors because vehicles with brighter colors seem less valuable.

The result is that trucks with neutral colors flood the market. In contrast, vehicles with bright colors have become rare and something of a novelty. Hence, the resale values of vehicles with bright colors will increase.

Nevertheless, not all bright colors attract a high resale value. For example, gold is a bright color that has a low resale value. The low value is because many people link gold paint with old-fashioned trucks.

3. Fuel Efficiency

Each color absorbs heat at a different rate. The rate of heat absorption or reflection will affect the temperature in the truck's interior. In turn, the truck's interior temperature determines the amount of fuel necessary for air conditioning. Hence, certain colors will increase fuel efficiency in certain seasons.

4. Maintenance

You may have a harder time detecting flaws and dirt on a truck with specific colors. Generally, lighter colors can easily hide imperfections and dirt better than dark colors. For instance, white trucks will readily display dark debris. Similarly, taupe and champagne will easily conceal dust and dirt because the particles resemble the truck's paint.

5. Your Personality

Your truck's color provides a lot of information about your personality. A black truck commonly signifies empowerment and elegance, while a white pickup truck portrays directness. On the other hand, people perceive silver to be a futuristic color, while others associate red with freedom and excitement. You can also select an orange tint to bring out your adventurous and excitement-seeking nature.
